It’s almost Mother’s Day, and I’m sitting here at my desk not thinking about what I really want for Mother’s Day. I’m not thinking about a mani-pedi or being told I’m an awesome mom or asking for 10 free coupons to use the bathroom in silence.
Nope.
Not thinking about any of that.
Right now I’m thinking about how beautifully impressive all the moms I know really are. I’m thinking about how much they give and give and give to their families. It’s something really special to see. I can’t tell you how many moms I see every day and think, “If I were half as good as her, I’d be doing alright.”
So today.
Before, after and during Mother’s Day.
I just wanted to shout CHEERS to you mama.
Cheers to the mama who is a kind friend. The mom who doesn’t care if other moms parent just a little different than she does. The mom who doesn’t judge and gives other moms the benefit of the doubt when they need it most. The mom who has a really good heart and cares about others. The mom who would never shame or bully another mom.
Cheers to the mama who is a stay at home mom, work at home mom or working mom. We all carry different roles for our families, but at the end of the day you are doing important work and fulfilling a role for your family that no one else can.
Cheers to the mama who is up all night and keeps on going throughout the day even though she’s just so tired. The mom who is caring for sick babies during the night and grapples with the decision to call urgent care or just tough it out. The mom who hugs and kisses her sweet sleepless children even when she secretly prays they will “for the love of God just go to sleep already.”
Cheers to the mom who breastfeeds or formula feeds. You put serious thought and intention into how you would nourish your baby. You want your child to grow up healthy, happy and strong just like everyone else. You are doing amazing.
Cheers to the mom who puts her kids first, even when it isn’t easy. The mom who gives up those girls’ nights out, even when she is well-deserving. The mom who gives up most anything and everything that revolves around her feeling like an actual human being.
Cheers to the mom who remembers to take a break. You put your kids first, but remember that you need to take care of you too sometimes in order to be a good mom. You don’t always do it as much as you should, but you do it enough to keep yourself going.
Cheers to the mom is enjoys the sweet precious moments of motherhood. Because it really is a special journey—to be a mom. You hang on to those rare moments when your child unexpectedly whispers, “Mommy, I love you so much.” You find your greatest happiness in life’s smallest adventures with your kids.
Cheers to the mom who remembers to laugh when life gets hard. Just when your day seems like it can’t get any worse, you remember to find the good in it all. You call up your friend to vent your frustrations and remember that you aren’t the only one. In a weird way, it makes you feel better.
Cheers to the mom who tries to do better for her kids. To the mom who reads the parenting books. And to the mom who throws the parenting books out the window. You are trying to find what works for you, your kids and your family. You are trying to be the best parent you can without going totally insane reading too much advice from others.
Cheers to the mom who just loves her kids. Those imperfect kids who push you to the end of your limits. Those imperfect kids who challenge you more than you ever thought was possible. Those imperfect kids who turned you into one helluva amazing mother.
You are amazing mama.
Cheers to you.
And all you do.
